Turvey Upstream
Turvey Upstream is a members-only River Great Ouse stretch from Turvey road bridge up to the weir pool, then over the footbridge to the stile. It’s a proper bank fishery, joining Northampton Nene Angling Club’s Newton Blossomville water upstream.

The lowdown
- The stretch starts at Turvey road bridge and runs upstream along the right-hand bank. The weir pool is the main landmark, with the fishery carrying on over the footbridge above it.
- There’s also a section above the sluice gates, so the water isn’t just one short pool. Follow the river footpath from the access gate to reach the swims.
- Access is through the gate just before Turvey bridge, opposite the A428 lay-by. Members get the combination code in the club book — no faffing about looking for a key.
- Do lock the gate behind you. It’s a club water and access is on foot, so keep things tidy and leave the way secure for the next angler.
- The weir pool should be the obvious place to start looking for a bit of extra depth and push, while the water above the sluice gates gives you another area to explore.
- Species listed for this stretch are barbel, roach, perch, chub, bream, dace and pike. Plenty there for a session built around either coarse fish or a predator approach.
- The closed season runs from March 15 to June 15 inclusive. Outside that period, pick your swim around the river’s features and fish the conditions in front of you.
- Fishing from boats or kayaks isn’t allowed. Nor is removing fish, crayfish trapping or magnet fishing. Keep it a straightforward bank session and you’ll be bob on.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: A flexible river approach looks the ticket here: work the weir pool and sluice-gate section around their depth and flow, then switch between trotting, feeder or legering as conditions dictate. Predator anglers have pike listed too, but all fishing is from the bank.
