Willington (Grange Estate complex), River Great Ouse
Willington’s Grange Estate complex is a deeper, wider and slower-moving River Great Ouse stretch, owned and run by Vauxhall Angling Club. It’s a proper mixed fishery with tench, bream, roach, carp and barbel, plus summer boat traffic to factor in.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a broad, steady length rather than a rattly little stream. The deeper, slower flow suits a patient approach.
- The river is navigable, so boat traffic can be part of the summer picture. Pick a swim with a bit of room and expect the water to change through the day.
- Summer weed is usually not a major problem here, which keeps things fairly tidy for both float and leger work.
- Roach are a cracking target. Hemp and tares are specifically mentioned, with a pole or float rod the obvious route.
- Tench, bream and carp are generally taken on leger tactics. Keep things settled and fish patiently rather than constantly faffing about.
- There’s decent mixed-fish potential, including carp reported to 22 lb, tench to 6 lb and bream to 9 lb.
- Barbel are beginning to appear on the stretch too, so there’s a cheeky extra possibility when the river has a bit of colour and pace.
- On-site car parking is available, but park by the fenceline. The concrete road must stay clear, and take extreme care when crossing the bridleway.
- Access is through the combination-locked gate at the end of Chapel Lane. Membership is required, with no day-ticket option listed for this stretch.
Methods: Float or pole work with hemp and tares is the stated approach for roach. For tench, bream and carp, leger tactics are the main game.
