We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a compact stretch rather than a long, wandering run of bank. The rights holder describes it as a short section beside Willington Lake, so don’t expect endless pegs.
- The river sits downstream of Bedford and is tucked right alongside Willington Lake. Nearby coverage places the section around Danish Camp and behind the lake.
- Chub are the dominant named species here. The rights holder reports fish of 6lb or more, which is a cracking bit of chub potential on paper.
- Roach and dace are present too, giving the stretch a proper mixed-river feel rather than being all about one species.
- There are pike and bream in the stretch as well. That makes it worth keeping the tackle and bait choices reasonably flexible.
- The big draw is the river carp. SDAA says the section holds a good head, with fish over 20lb reported by the rights holder.
- At only about 275 yards, this is a small piece of water to get your head around. Have a look at the available bank and settle on a swim that suits your approach.
- This isn’t described as a separate day-ticket venue. SDAA says its Great Ouse waters are available on one club ticket, with standard membership giving access to all SDAA waters.
- Access is through the association, with an A11 key needed for the Willington Lake gate. The key costs £10 for 2026/27, on top of membership.
- Night fishing is not included with standard membership. A separate night permit is required at Willington Lake, and all 2026/27 permits had already been allocated when the official form was published.
Methods: The named fish give you plenty to think about, from chub, roach and dace to bream, pike and river carp. Keep the approach flexible around the short section and the fish you’re targeting.
