We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- Access is properly rural. Park in the gateway beside Black Barn on Weston Road, between Olney and Weston Underwood.
- Space is tight — roughly two cars, one on each side of the gate. Don’t block the way or expect a big car park.
- From the gate, it’s a 10–15 minute walk across three fields to the river. Uneven ground, undergrowth and a bit of faff are all part of the deal.
- Fishing is from the north bank. The main section is a long straight length with a wider area in the middle, giving you a few different-looking swims to explore.
- The river is slow-flowing here, so it’s a natural fit for patient float work, light feeder tactics and finding the crease where the pace changes.
- The second section runs through woodland. Access is trickier, but that cover is valuable fish habitat and perch are specifically mentioned as a possible feature there.
- It’s described as lightly fished and away from pedestrian pressure. That makes it a cracking option if you fancy a quieter session rather than a busy procession of anglers.
- There’s very little official peg or species advice, mainly because the water has historically seen minimal angling pressure. A bit of watercraft and moving quietly should pay off.
- The long walk across fields makes this a poor choice for substantial carping gear. Travel light and keep the kit sensible.
- Night fishing is permitted, but the association doesn’t publish a separate night surcharge for this stretch.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Keep it mobile and tidy: trot the steady water, fish the wider area with a light feeder, and work the margins and cover around the woodland. Perch are the named possibility, especially in the wooded section.
