Emberton Park, River Great Ouse

Emberton Park gives you in-season fishing on the park side of the River Great Ouse, with tickets handled at the gatehouse. It’s a proper mixed-fish park venue, but remember: this is a day or season ticket job, and night fishing isn’t included.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This stretch is run by Milton Keynes City Council as part of Emberton Country Park, near the village of Emberton by Olney.
  • Fishing is allowed on the park side of the River Great Ouse only. The river is fishable in season, with the national closed season running from 15 March to 16 June.
  • You’ll need an Environment Agency rod licence as well as an Emberton Park day or season fishing ticket. Both need to be sorted before settling into a swim.
  • The council says your licence permits up to two rods at once. Handy if you like keeping two approaches in play, but don’t leave lines unattended.
  • Tickets must be shown on demand while fishing. The gatehouse is where anglers show their rod licence and obtain tickets.
  • The park covers more than 200 acres and includes four lakes alongside the river. The current rules say fishing is prohibited in the conservation area, so keep well within the permitted areas.
  • The park’s listed fish include perch, roach, pike, bream, carp and tench. That gives the wider park a cracking mixed-fish feel, with options for coarse-fishing approaches across the venue.
  • All fish must be returned alive after capture. Anglers are also responsible for litter on their peg, so leave the swim bob on.
  • No lead shot for line weighting. Swimming, wading and paddling are not permitted in the park’s waters, and no shelter may be erected near the lake apart from fishing umbrellas.
  • Accessible fishing facilities and specially adapted pegs are available in the park. Day and week tickets do not allow night fishing, so this one is strictly a daylight session unless your season-ticket terms say otherwise.

Methods: The checked details confirm a two-rod limit, but don’t specify particular tactics or swims. Keep lines attended, fish within the permitted park-side area and stick to the ticket terms.
