Offord Island (Willow Tree Island)
Willow Tree Island at Offord is a proper secluded Great Ouse venue, with the main river on one side and a deep backwater on the other. LAA members get around 30 swims, all within an easy stroll of the pontoon.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a complete island fishery, so it has a cracking wild feel once you’ve crossed the back stream.
- There are swims on both the main river and backwater, with a good path looping around the fishery.
- The backwater is narrow and properly deep tight to the bank — at least 9 feet on average. Worth bearing in mind when plumbing up.
- The main river is shallower than the backwater. Upstream, it opens out into wide, slow swims where bream and tench commonly show.
- Roach are a principal target here. Hemp and tares are the bob-on approach when they’re on the munch.
- Chub often sit close to overhanging trees, so keep an eye on cover and fish tight rather than spreading it everywhere.
- There’s also dace, perch, tench and bream, plus the occasional double-figure barbel to keep things interesting.
- The island has roughly 30 swims, all a short walk from the pontoon. No massive hike with a barrow full of kit — always a bonus.
- Access is across the back stream by pontoon, then it’s a short walk from the Offord and Buckden Angling Society field. The car park is by the trees.
- Bookable water is listed for Sundays, and night fishing is permitted. The secluded setting should make for a very peaceful after-dark session.
Methods: Roach are well suited to hemp-and-tares tactics, while the wide, slow upstream swims lend themselves to fishing for bream and tench. For chub, fish close to the overhanging trees; the deeper backwater is another feature worth working carefully.
