We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a deep and wide bit of the Nene, with all 32 pegs fitted with platforms. So access is comfortable and you’re not clambering about like a right wally.
- The stretch sits opposite Yarwell Mill, with a rural feel and plenty of bankside vegetation. Permanently moored boats are kept out, which leaves the fishing area nicely protected.
- Pegs 1–11 are reached from inside the lake through pedestrian gates. It’s a roughly 550-metre walk from the day-ticket parking area to the riverside, so pack light or bring a decent barrow.
- Pegs 12–22 are the easy-access option, sitting on the roadway with parking directly behind. Handy if you’ve got a mountain of gear for feeder work.
- Pegs 23–32 need a short walk, with parking around peg 22. There’s also extra parking at Horseshoe Lake at the end of the track.
- The club names roach, dace, perch, chub, bream, rudd, bleak and pike from its waters. Plenty there to keep a session interesting, whether you fancy a silverfish day or something a bit more toothy.
- The closed season applies here, with fishing allowed from 16 June to 14 March. That gives you a decent run through the main river season.
- The platform pegs and wide river make this a flexible venue for float work, feeder fishing and a patient pike session. Look for the crease, steadier water and any cover from the vegetation.
- Day-ticket anglers must park on the grass verge and use the public footpath. Members use the gated entrance and track, with the gate combination lock kept locked at all times.
Methods: The deep, wide river and platform pegs lend themselves to trotting, feeder fishing and float work. Pike are also named here, so a dedicated pike approach is an option within the club’s rules.
