Llandovery Angling Association Lower Water, River Tywi
A cracking bit of Tywi below Llandovery, with over three miles of double-bank water from just below the chain bridge down to Cwmgwyn Farm. It’s classic sewin water, with deep pools, lively runs and clean gravel underfoot.

The lowdown
- The Lower Water sits below Llandovery town and runs through rich meadowland. Proper open, wandering river country.
- It starts just below the chain bridge and carries on downstream to Cwmgwyn Farm — over three miles of fishing to explore.
- The Tywi meanders through deep holding pools, faster runs and neat riffles. Plenty of different water to pick apart.
- The River Bran adds extra flow to this reach, so the character can change nicely through the beat.
- The riverbed is clean gravel and wading is described as easy and safe. Still, keep your eyes on the crease and changing depth.
- This is classic fly-fishing water for sewin, and the holder says single-handed rods are suitable. A lovely setup for working the pools and glides.
- Wet spring conditions can produce large sewin over ten pounds. From mid-June, the main run is often four to five pounds.
- July, August and September can bring smaller shoal sewin, while salmon become more numerous as the season progresses.
- There’s no vehicular access to the association waters. Access points are signposted along the A4069 towards Llangadog, with maps from the holder showing access, boundaries and parking information.
Methods: Fly fishing is the main game here, especially for sewin with a single-handed rod. The published Tywi rules also allow spinning, plus limited worm fishing for sea trout during the stated season.
