River level

River level integration coming for this stretch.

My River Watch isn't available here — we haven't matched a level gauge to this stretch, and we won't guess one.

The lowdown

  • The Dee here has a proper rural feel, with Caldecott Hall and Shocklach nearby and a big, open floodplain around the river.
  • Expect meanders, low clay banks and water that can spread across the floodplain. It’s a stretch with plenty of natural river character.
  • The association controls roughly 1.5 miles, from the upper limit at warmers.sorters.airbrush to the lower limit at composer.position.geese.
  • Coarse anglers have roach, perch, dace, chub, gudgeon and barbel named for the water, with pike also listed. That’s a tidy mix.
  • The water is described as quality coarse fishing, but it’s mixed coarse and game fishing, with salmon, grayling, brown trout and sea trout also published for Caldecott Hall.
  • A trotted float or feeder approach should suit the river’s coarse side, especially when you can find a steady glide or a crease along the bank.
  • Keep an eye on conditions. The surrounding floodplain is frequently inundated, and the access track can turn poor in bad weather.
  • Access is via a rough track to a parking area at the end. The club gives the parking location as oppose.lump.appointed.
  • The access-point what3words location is provider.hobbyists.plodding. Handy stuff, particularly when the track and surrounding floodplain make things feel a bit remote.
  • Night fishing is covered by a separate night permit for adult or student members, while the club also lists a key for 24/7 access. Check you’ve got the right bits before heading off.

Methods: Float fishing and feeder work are the obvious coarse approaches, with the river’s meanders, glides and crease water worth exploring. Game anglers have salmon, grayling, brown trout and sea trout listed too.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
