We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is the Weaver Navigation, not the old unnavigable river channel. Worth getting that straight before you set off.
  • The fishable length starts at Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge on the A56 and heads upstream towards Frodsham for roughly 720 metres.
  • It’s deep and wide, but PSAC says it fishes in a canal-like manner. Think steady water rather than a lively little river run.
  • There’s a good head of coarse fish here, with chub, perch, roach, bream, carp, pike and eels named across the club’s stock.
  • Mixed silverfish are present too, so there’s plenty to keep a float or feeder ticking over when the bigger fish aren’t playing ball.
  • The broad, deep character should suit a tidy feeder approach, while pole fishing is also allowed under the club’s rod-and-line rules.
  • For a proper session, look for changes in depth and any crease or feature in the otherwise canal-style water. Keep things neat and adaptable.
  • The close season runs from 15 March to 15 June inclusive, so the open season starts on 16 June. Don’t get caught out by the dates.
  • Parking is on the verge just before the A557 junction on the A56, with a dropped kerb at the start. The nearest postcode given is WA7 3GF.
  • Coming from the A557, turn left onto the A56. PSAC says anglers can turn in the car-wash yard before reaching the verge so the car is facing the right way.

Methods: A feeder is a sensible starting point on this deep, wide canal-style water, with pole fishing also permitted. Keep an eye on the flow, depth and any crease, then switch things up if the silverfish are on the munch.
