We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Great Corby on Live River Levels
The lowdown
- The fishery is run by Warwick Hall Estate at Warwick-on-Eden, just outside Carlisle. Proper countryside surroundings.
- There are two beats to book: Top Beat and Park Beat. Each one runs for approximately a mile, so there’s plenty of water to explore.
- The setting sounds bob on, with remote river sections, meadows, woodland and open Cumbrian countryside around the banks.
- Salmon and sea trout are the headline targets here, with day rods available throughout the relevant fishing periods.
- The river also holds wild brown trout and abundant grayling. Lovely stuff for a lighter approach when conditions suit.
- Trout fishing runs from 1 April to 30 September, while grayling fishing is available from 15 October to 14 February.
- If you book more than one day, the beats are fished on an alternating basis. Handy for seeing more of the water rather than hammering one beat.
- The estate describes the Eden as a quality salmon river. Keep an eye on water height and colour, as a bit of extra flow can really bring the bigger fish on the munch.
- There’s no separate parking postcode published for each beat, so sort the access details when booking. Also, don’t assume night fishing is allowed.
- The river and surrounding area sit within a protected Special Area of Conservation, so treat the banks and countryside with care. A cracking wild setting, basically.
Methods: For salmon and sea trout, fish within the relevant day-rod seasons and adapt to the river’s flow and colour. Trout and grayling offer lighter sport in their stated seasons, with trotting or a tidy feeder approach where suitable.
