We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is part of BMAA’s River Trent venue covering Willington, Twyford and Barrow. The Barrow access is near Barrow on Trent, but there’s no specific car parking for this access, so expect a walk-in rather than a peg-up-by-the-car job.
- The official details don’t give a stretch length or peg count. They also don’t name any particular fish for the Barrow subsection, so there’s no sensible species list to hang your session on here.
- You’ll be fishing from the river bank or another appropriate access. Keep gates shut where needed, stay tidy and take all litter away from your swim. Basic bank etiquette, but worth getting right.
- A minimum 15-yard gap between anglers may be required. You can also spend no more than 24 hours on one river peg before moving to another, so don’t get too settled in one swim.
- All coarse fish must go straight back. Salmon, sea trout and brown trout must also be returned. A suitable landing net is required, with an unhooking mat and sling needed for pike, carp, barbel and specimen fish.
- No fires or barbecues. A small gas-ring cooker is allowed, which is bob on for a brew without turning the bank into a campsite. Dogs aren’t allowed on BMAA river sections.
- Night fishing is members only. On the river, it’s open-fronted brolly only — no bivvies, tents or enclosed shelters. Keep things simple and low-key after dark.
- There’s no access during the River Trent close season, including walking the banks or pre-baiting. Also leave trees, bushes and fences alone unless the committee has authorised work.
- Fish must not be moved between waters. Members need a current Environment Agency rod licence as well as BMAA membership, so have both boxes ticked before setting off.
Methods: The checked details don’t specify a best method, depth or river feature for this exact subsection. Treat it as a bank-access Trent session and choose your approach around the conditions on the day.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
