We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is a proper mixed coarse section of the Trent, with barbel, bream, chub, carp, perch, pike, roach and rudd all listed for the fishery.
  • DRAC also lists dace, although that species isn’t available as a selectable species tag here. Most species are said to be represented, so it’s a broad, mixed bag sort of water.
  • There’s a cheeky chance of a bigger common carp too, with DRAC specifically mentioning the occasional large fish. Worth keeping the tackle sensible if carp are your target.
  • The club says the stretch suits most fishing methods. That gives you plenty of scope, whether you fancy a float, feeder or a more dedicated specimen approach.
  • For barbel and chub, look at the usual river options around steady water and the crease. Keep an eye on the flow and any change in pace, especially when the Trent has a bit of colour.
  • Bream, roach, rudd and perch give you plenty to go at with lighter gear. A patient feeder or float approach should fit the mixed nature of the fishery, subject to local conditions.
  • Pike are present as well, but remember that live bait is forbidden. Any predator plan needs to stay within the club rules and Environment Agency by-laws.
  • The published coarse-river season runs from 16 June to 14 March inclusive. That’s the window for planning a proper river campaign here.
  • Access details and maps are kept inside the DRAC members area, so you’ll need to be a member and use the recognised access points. No trespassing, no boats, and no dogs or guns.
  • Night fishing needs a separate permit. Each river session is limited to 24 hours, then you must leave the peg. Keep your DRAC card and EA rod licence with you.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: DRAC says the fishery is suitable for most fishing methods. Float, feeder and specimen-style approaches are all possible in principle, with the relevant club rules applying.

Key rules

  • Only legitimate angling in accordance with Environment Agency by-laws is allowed.
  • All anglers must carry their DRAC membership card and EA rod licence on club fisheries.
  • All waters other than specified exceptions allow a maximum of two rods.
  • Live bait is forbidden.
  • All fish must be returned to the water.
  • Fishing from boats is not permitted. Recognised access points must be used and trespassing is prohibited.
  • Dogs, guns, fires, barbecues, tents and camping between fishing sessions are prohibited.
  • Specimen anglers targeting carp, pike or barbel must use barbless hooks, an appropriate unhooking mat and a suitable landing net. Fishing is prohibited within 30 metres of overhead electric power lines.
  • DRAC’s published coarse-river season is 16 June to 14 March inclusive.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
