Lords Walk
Lords Walk is a cracking half-mile stretch of the River Avon at Amesbury, run by Salisbury & District Angling Club. It’s one of the few Avon stretches above Salisbury where coarse fishing is allowed, with specimen grayling the big draw.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Amesbury on Live River Levels
The lowdown
- This is a main-river stretch with fishing from both banks, so there’s plenty of water to explore rather than just a handful of pegs.
- Grayling are the main event here, with fish to about 2 lb a realistic possibility. Dace and roach are also present.
- The water has faster, shallower sections that suit grayling nicely. Look for the quicker flow and the crease where it eases back.
- Winter is the proper season for this place. The stretch is well known for trotting, and the Avon’s flow gives that approach plenty of scope.
- It’s not just a grayling-only venue, either. Coarse fishing is permitted here, which makes Lords Walk one of the few options above Salisbury for a coarse day on the Avon.
- The river sits beside the path at Lords Walk, near historic Amesbury and the A303. Access points need using responsibly, and the club boundaries must be respected.
- Coarse fishing runs from 16 June to 14 March inclusive. Fishing is dawn to dusk, so there’s no cheeky late session or night fishing on this ticket.
- All coarse fish must go back. Grayling must not be kept in keepnets before 1 October, so handle them properly and keep things tidy.
- Non-members can book a coarse day ticket online through the club website, or pick one up from Autocare Amesbury Ltd at 9 Flower Lane, Amesbury, SP4 7JE.
Methods: Winter trotting is the standout approach, especially through the faster, shallower grayling water. The stretch also offers coarse fishing, with the flow and crease worth concentrating on.
