Goodrich Court
Goodrich Court is a cracking 1-mile salmon beat a few miles below Ross-on-Wye, with double-bank fishing, named pools and plenty of bank access. Outside the salmon season, it switches over to a double-bank coarse fishery for a proper bit of trotting.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The salmon beat runs for just over 1 mile and is double bank, so there’s plenty of water to get your head around.
- Named pools include The V, Dog Hole, Maddox and Vanstone. Handy names to look for when planning the day.
- Much of the salmon water is fishable from the bank, with relatively easy wading where you do need to get in.
- It’s a salmon-only job during the salmon season. No mixing it up with coarse tackle on this beat.
- Both fly fishing and spinning are allowed, but fly fishing is required before 12 noon. Worth having the fly rod ready from the off.
- A resident ghillie is available Tuesday to Sunday, which is bob on if you want a steer on the pools and the flow.
- The house keeps the right to fish unbooked rods on the day, so booked anglers don’t automatically have every rod to themselves.
- Salmon fishing is catch-and-release at all times, with a wash-off policy in operation. Dogs are allowed, but keep them under control.
- Outside the salmon season, the same 1-mile double-bank stretch is available for coarse fishing. It suits trotting a float, with barbel, chub and dace named for the water.
- Coarse anglers get a maximum of four tickets per day. Pike fishing isn’t permitted, all coarse fish must be released, and an online catch return is mandatory after the session.
Methods: For salmon, work the named pools with fly or spinning, remembering that fly fishing is required before noon. On the coarse side, trotting a float is the clear shout, with the double-bank water offering room to find a steady glide.
