We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a family-run bit of the Wye that’s been in the same ownership for many years. Fishing is by arrangement, so get the booking sorted before turning up.
- The beat runs for roughly three-quarters of a mile, taking in water above and below Hoarwithy Bridge. Both single-bank and double-bank fishing are available.
- It’s coarse fishing water, with barbel, chub and dace regularly turning up. Roach and perch are increasingly recorded too.
- The fishery also offers pike and salmon fishing, making this a handy stretch if you fancy changing things up rather than sticking to one job.
- For the coarse angler, the limit is five rods across the fishery at one time, with one rod per angler. Keep that in mind when sorting a group booking.
- Pike fishing is fly-only and has a tight season, running from 1 October through to 1 February. It’s limited to two anglers, so this is a small, focused session rather than a busy free-for-all.
- Salmon anglers get good wading fly water, plus deeper sections and pools. The salmon fishing is aimed at keen, experienced anglers and must be booked through Old Harp Fishery.
- The water has historically been very lightly fished. That, along with the mix of wading areas and deeper pools, gives the beat a proper varied feel.
- Coarse fishing is £20 per angler for the day, while the whole fishery can be booked exclusively for £85. Under-16s fish free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Methods: Coarse anglers can target the named barbel, chub, dace, roach and perch, while salmon fishing includes wading fly water and deeper pools. Pike fishing is fly-only and restricted to its published season.
