We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a secluded, tranquil and unspoilt bit of the Wye, privately owned and well maintained by Dawley Estates.
- There’s approximately two miles of managed river-bank fishing, and members can roam the whole fishery during their season.
- Coarse members get direct access to the river bank, with vehicles allowed along the full length. Handy when you’ve got a barrow-load of kit.
- The venue is aimed squarely at barbel fans, but the rights holder also names chub, pike, trout, dace, roach, eel, grayling, river carp and shad.
- Barbel are described to 15 lb, with chub to 8 lb and pike over 20 lb. Salmon are listed to 20 lb. Proper Wye fare.
- Expect classic river fishing rather than a boxed-in commercial setup. Work the swims, find the crease and keep an eye on the flow as conditions change.
- Feeder work and trotting are the obvious coarse approaches, with barbel likely to be the main target. A bit of colour in the river should be well worth watching for.
- The coarse season runs from 16 June 2026 to 14 March 2027. Members have access on any day, but must notify the fishery before arriving.
- Salmon fishing is unguided and roaming, with the beat suited to four rods a day. Spinning runs from 3 March to 31 August, while fly fishing runs to 17 October.
- Membership numbers are restricted to keep things exclusive and lightly fished. The online calendar shows expected fishing numbers, so there’s less faff planning a visit.
Methods: For coarse fishing, barbel-led feeder work and trotting are the natural starting points, covering the creases and changing flow. Salmon members can roam the full beat and fish unguided by spinner or fly in the relevant season.
