Middle Rotherwas (Docklow Pool) — River Wye
A proper bit of private Wye at Rotherwas, running for over a mile and packed with walks, beaches and a cracking island feature. It’s a residents-or-members stretch, with no day tickets available.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is peaceful Herefordshire river fishing near Rotherwas Chapel and the Wye Valley Walk. A lovely setting, but it’s not a quick hop from the car.
- Parking is in the English Heritage Rotherwas Chapel car park, postcode HR2 6LD. From there, it’s roughly 5–10 minutes to the nearest bank-side fishing.
- Most pegs mean a walk, and some are awkward to reach. The banks can be uneven, steep or slippery, so sturdy footwear is a proper must.
- There are beaches along the stretch which can be used for fishing. Handy spots if you fancy avoiding the trickier bank sections.
- The big feature is the large island. The river runs fast around its south side, giving you a lively bit of water to work.
- Docklow Pools specifically highlights the island area for trotting. The quicker flow should suit a float presented neatly through the crease.
- Feeder fishing is also on the cards, with the water described as suitable for both feeder work and trotting.
- Fish named for this stretch include chub, perch, barbel, roach, pike and carp. Reported catches include pike, perch, chub and barbel.
- There are no concrete platforms or dug-out pegs here. It’s a natural river stretch, and anglers fish it at their own risk.
- This one won’t suit anyone wanting easy access or a short stroll to the swim. Most pegs involve a walk, with some genuinely difficult to reach.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Trotting is a key approach, especially around the island and its faster south side. Feeder fishing is also suitable, with the beaches and accessible swims offering options where the bank allows.
