Ross-on-Wye — Weirend (Duchy of Cornwall — Robert Pashley water)
Weirend is Ross-on-Wye Angling Club’s longest River Wye stretch, running for roughly 2 to 2.5 miles on the right bank between below the old Wilton Bridge and a stile near Pencraig. It’s a proper mixed fishery, with coarse water and recognised salmon fishing in the same long run.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is the Duchy of Cornwall’s Weirend water, including much of the stretch historically fished by Robert Pashley, described by the club as a famous Wye salmon angler.
- The club’s fishing is entirely on the right bank looking downstream. Notices mark both ends, so finding the limits should be bob on.
- There’s a good mix of river character here: deeper, slower sections, shallow gravel runs and rocky shallow water. Plenty to keep you moving between swims.
- The stretch runs parallel with the A40 towards Monmouth, from about 800 yards below the old Wilton Bridge towards the stile near Pencraig.
- Coarse fishing is available from 16 June to 14 March inclusive. All coarse fish must be returned unharmed, so handle them with care.
- Salmon fishing runs from 3 March to 17 October inclusive. Fly fishing is allowed throughout that season, while spinning is permitted from 3 March to 31 August.
- Salmon anglers get priority at the designated white-post catches during the salmon season. Salmon and sea trout must go back unharmed, with barbless or de-barbed hooks required.
- The club lists barbel, brown trout, carp, chub, dace, eel, grayling, mirror carp, perch, pike, rainbow trout, roach, salmon and sea trout in the fishery. Pike can reach 30 lb or more.
- Access is on foot from Wilton Bridge, the club’s Weirend car park, and a marked field gateway near the Glewstone turning. Don’t drive down to the river or block field entrances.
- There’s a salmon hut with power and water for members. No night fishing, either — everyone must leave by no later than one hour after sunset.
Methods: For coarse anglers, the varied depth and gravel-and-rocky water suit a mobile approach, with trotting or feeder work depending on the flow. Salmon anglers can fly fish throughout the season, with spinning allowed until 31 August.
