Stacklands
Stacklands is a cracking 900-metre BAA stretch on the left bank of the River Wye at King’s Caple. It runs through three meadows, immediately upstream of the footbridge, with shallower inside-bend water up top and deeper near-side water by the bridge.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- Access is through the BAA-signed farm gate, reached on the road towards King’s Caple. Nice and straightforward, just follow the signs rather than having a proper faff.
- There’s a designated car park alongside the fishing hut, which is bob on. Don’t drive across the fields or park on the river bank.
- If the car park is full, park outside the field on the road or leave. No squeezing in somewhere cheeky — the rules are clear.
- The upstream end sits on the inside of a bend. The water is shallower near the bank here, so it’s the bit to look at for a shallower swim.
- Down by the footbridge, the stretch swings onto the outside of a bend. The near side is deeper, giving you a different sort of swim from the upper meadow.
- It’s a proper long bit of river at roughly 900 metres, spread across three meadows. That gives the venue a good feel of space rather than everything being crammed together.
- BAA has a dispensation for maggots, groundbait and feeders on the Wye. Use groundbait sensibly and in quantities appropriate for the venue — no need to carpet-bomb the swim.
- The membership covers coarse fish, trout and salmon, subject to BAA rules and the right Environment Agency licence. The venue was previously salmon-only, so the fishery has a bit of history.
- Night fishing is strictly forbidden. Keep it to daylight sessions and make sure your BAA membership card is with you.
- There’s giant hogweed in the field alongside the river. It can cause skin burns, so give it a wide berth and don’t go wandering through it.
Methods: The BAA dispensation allows maggots, groundbait and feeders, so feeder fishing and maggot-based approaches are permitted. Match the amount of groundbait to the venue and fish the shallower upper bend or deeper water near the footbridge.
