We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is one of RTWAS’s newer river additions, sitting within the society’s wider Medway portfolio.
  • The river has a lower-Medway character here rather than an upper-river feel. Flow is slow, so it’s a different game from faster, more pushy water.
  • The banks aren’t steep, making Chafford Park one of the easier RTWAS river venues to fish. Handy if you don’t fancy clambering about all day.
  • The surrounding fields are grazed by cattle, so expect a fairly open, rural setting. Keep an eye on stock and follow any venue guidance around the fields.
  • It’s described as a quiet venue and suits anglers who enjoy a match-style approach. Think tidy presentation, finding the right line and working a swim properly.
  • Barbel are present and still get caught despite the gentle flow. That’s a cheeky bonus when you’re expecting mainly silverfish action.
  • There are carp to 15 lb, chub over 5 lb, perch over 3 lb and roach approaching 2 lb. A nice mixed bag of targets.
  • Early summer brings skylarks and reed buntings around the stretch, while egrets may show in the fields during winter. Proper peaceful Medway stuff.
  • No published peg count or measured length is available. Access and parking details also aren’t stated on the checked holder pages, so sort those details before setting off.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: A match-style approach suits the slow water, with careful presentation and steady swim work. Barbel are there too, so keep a proper eye on the crease and any more positive-looking lines.
