We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Killington on Live River Levels
The lowdown
- This is proper River Lune game fishing around Kirkby Lonsdale, with the town and Devil’s Bridge giving the stretch a cracking bit of character.
- The association controls several miles of fishing in and around the Kirkby Lonsdale area. The exact published length isn’t given, so don’t expect a neat mile figure.
- It’s fly fishing only under normal conditions. That’s the main game here, so tackle up for fly work rather than turning up with a feeder rod.
- Spinning may be allowed when the river reaches certain water levels. Check the current position with the association before relying on it.
- Salmon are the big name on this part of the Lune. Sea trout and brown trout are also named target species for the fishing.
- There’s no day-ticket faff for non-members. This is private club water, and membership is the route in.
- Membership is open to local residents and anglers living farther away, so you don’t have to be local to apply. Junior and under-30 categories are available too.
- Ruskin’s View gives views over the river from Kirkby Lonsdale, while photographs also show the Lune south of town. It’s a lovely setting before you even pick up the rod.
- No official parking spot, postcode or night-fishing rule is published. Best bet is to get the access and current arrangements sorted with the secretary before heading out.
- Make sure your fishing lines up with the Environment Agency regulations and byelaws. River levels matter here, especially if you’re hoping spinning will be permitted.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Fly fishing is the standard approach under normal conditions. Spinning may be permitted at certain river levels, but check with KLDAA first.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
