We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a natural river stretch, not a tidy pegged commercial fishery. Much more proper river fishing than car-park-and-pellet stuff.
- The fishing runs along the south bank, starting at Edisford Bridge and heading downstream towards Siddows Hall.
- You’re close to Clitheroe, but the surrounding feel is rural. The Ribble Way adds a bit of foot traffic and plenty of open riverside character.
- There aren’t fixed pegs to work through. Pick your swim along the stretch and fish the river as it presents itself.
- Any-method fishing is allowed, subject to the applicable rules. That gives you plenty of scope, whether you fancy float work or a static approach.
- The council lists trout, sea trout, salmon, chub, grayling and roach among the available species. A decent mixed-bag river, then.
- Fishing is daylight only, so it’s a dawn-to-dusk job. No late-night faff or headtorch sessions here.
- Disabled access is available on the stretch. Parking is described as easy in the wider Clitheroe fishing area.
- The key thing is keeping an eye on the rules. Junior anglers must stay off when the river is in flood, and the permit needs to be carried while fishing.
- It’s a handy option for a day on the Ribble, with Edisford Bridge and Clitheroe making the area easy to find and the ticket straightforward to sort.
Methods: Any-method fishing is permitted, subject to the applicable rules. The natural, unpegged river layout gives you room to choose a suitable swim rather than fishing a marked commercial peg.
