We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Crakehill on Live River Levels

The lowdown
- This is coarse-fishing water run by Bradford City Angling Association, so you’ll need current BCAA membership before setting up.
- The stretch is approximately 1,000 metres long and sits in a rural, tree-lined part of the lower Swale.
- Fishing is from the left bank only. Keep that firmly in mind when planning your approach and access.
- The upstream end is a bit awkward, with fences and thickly wooded banks restricting access.
- Access at the top end is through Willow View Farm. There’s parking beside the farm driveway, with room for roughly three cars.
- A second access point comes from Catton Lane. Don’t block the lane, and be aware the field gate can be locked when cattle are present.
- The better swims are reported to be downstream of the heavily overgrown upstream field. That’s the area to have in mind when choosing where to fish.
- The venue is listed for barbel, chub, roach and pike. A proper mixed coarse-water line-up, then, rather than a one-species job.
- Night fishing is allowed along the whole length, and there’s no separate night-fishing permit for this stretch.
- All BCAA fisheries are catch-and-release. Bring a landing net, leave the livebait at home, and make sure your Environment Agency rod licence is sorted.
- The coarse-fishing close season runs from 15 March through 15 June inclusive, so check the dates before making a trip.
Methods: This is coarse fishing water, with barbel, chub, roach and pike listed for the stretch. The checked details don’t specify particular methods, so anglers should fish within the BCAA rules and the seasonal closure.
