River Ure Aldborough
A cracking 450-metre River Ure stretch at Aldborough, run by Thirsk Angling Club. It’s a deep, easy-access right-bank venue with roughly 15 pegs, and the club reckons it really comes into its own from September onwards.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The fishing is down Hall Arms Lane, with the stretch starting around 200 metres upstream of the lane-and-river junction and running roughly 250 metres downstream.
- You’re fishing the right bank only. The club describes the pegs as very easily accessible, so there’s no major faff getting settled in.
- The river is generally very deep, giving the swim a proper bit of presence. Expect to be thinking about depth, presentation and holding a bait where it needs to be.
- There are approximately 15 pegs across the 450 metres. That gives the stretch a nice spread rather than packing everyone shoulder to shoulder.
- The club names barbel, chub, roach, dace, grayling and perch among its river species. Specimen fish are a distinct possibility, too.
- September onwards is the key steer from the club. As the season moves on, it’s likely to be the time to give this deeper water a proper go.
- A day ticket is £5, and bookings are limited by available swims and member allocations. The stretch can also be unavailable during matches, so check before setting off.
- For tactics, the depth points towards a solid feeder approach or careful float work where the pace allows. Look for the crease, steadier water and any feature that gives fish a break from the flow.
- Parking is at the bottom of Hall Arms Lane, on the left of the track before the flood bank. There’s extra parking farther down near the big sycamore tree until 1 October each year.
- Fishing is 7am until dusk only. Keep to the footpaths and banks, shut gates, don’t block farm access, and take every bit of litter home.
Methods: The depth makes feeder fishing a sensible starting point, while trotting or controlled float work could be bob on in steadier sections. Target the crease and any calmer water where fish can sit out of the main push.
