The lowdown
- This is the club’s marina stretch, not its separate Plantation section. Easy one to mix up, so check you’re heading for the right bit.
- The section runs from the road bridge down to the lock, with the marina side of the river on the opposite bank. Properly scenic Nene Valley stuff, with Barnwell Country Park and Oundle nearby.
- The wider Barnwell complex is described as peaceful and quiet. A nice setting when you fancy a calmer session rather than a busy commercial-water feel.
- It’s a coarse-fishing water with roach, bream, perch and chub named for the river stretch. The club says it can produce the odd decent chub too.
- Winter is the standout time here. The club describes the river as especially rewarding then, so it’s a cracking option when the colder months arrive.
- The wider Barnwell river sections have produced large rudd and chub catches. That gives the venue a bit of extra interest beyond the usual mixed coarse fare.
- The stretch sits beside the marina and lakes, but don’t treat the adjacent lake rules as applying to the river. The river has its own traditional close season.
- There’s no river fishing from 15 March to 15 June each year. The close-season exception is the adjacent lake, not this Nene stretch.
- Access around the complex can involve private or locked gates. Use the correct access gate, leave it closed and locked, and don’t climb gates or fences.
Methods: This is a coarse-fishing stretch with roach, bream, perch and chub in the mix. The checked details don’t specify particular tactics, so match your approach to the river conditions and the winter form of the venue.
