River level

River level integration coming for this stretch.

The lowdown

  • There are 36 pegs in total. The first 14 sit on the River Trent, while the rest run along the upper Trent Dyke. So there’s a bit of variety rather than one long, samey bank.
  • The fishery is on the right as you reach the river from the access track. Notts AA water is on the left side of the access point, so make sure you’re heading for the federation stretch.
  • The pegs are stoned with Matlock stone and described as comfortable to fish from. Handy stuff when you’re settling in for a full session.
  • Peg 35 has a disabled fishing platform, reached by gently sloping banks. A proper useful feature for anyone needing easier access.
  • The holder names roach, skimmers, bream, chub, perch and barbel, with those fish spread throughout the length. Plenty to aim at, depending on which bit you draw.
  • It fishes well in winter, and high river levels don’t automatically put it out of bounds. The main flow drops away over the opposite weir, keeping the stretch fishable when things get a bit lively.
  • With river and dyke sections, the character is varied coarse fishing. Look at the water in front of you and pick your approach around the flow and the peg rather than forcing one method.
  • Vehicles can be parked behind each peg, which makes carrying kit a lot less of a faff. Keep the access track clear, though, and don’t park on it.
  • Day tickets run from civil dawn to civil dusk. Members can fish until 10:30pm, but night fishing isn’t allowed, so no overnight sessions here.

Methods: A flexible coarse approach fits the varied river and dyke water nicely, with the named roach, bream, chub, perch and barbel giving you plenty to target. Match the method to the flow and conditions on the day.

Key rules

  • The coarse-fishing close season runs from 15 March through 15 June on the federation's rivers.
  • A maximum of two rods may be used simultaneously.
  • The day-ticket purchase receipt is the day ticket and must be shown if requested.
  • A current Environment Agency fishing licence is required in addition to the federation permit or day ticket.
  • Gates must be kept closed and locked unless instructed otherwise. Gate or lock codes must not be shared with non-members.
  • No litter. Fires are prohibited, although supervised above-ground barbecues and camping stoves are allowed.
  • Rods must not be left unattended. Anglers must remain within 10 metres of their rods while fishing.
  • Multi-hook rigs, fish removal or introduction, live bait for predatory fishing, boats, kayaks and peg saving are prohibited. Dead bait or artificial bait is allowed.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
