River level

River level integration coming for this stretch.

The lowdown

  • This is a named BDAAS section at Fiskerton in Nottinghamshire, split into numbered pegs from 1 to 85. Bob on if you like having a defined swim rather than wandering about.
  • The ABF describes it as a barbel fishery, and the named species also include chub, bream, pike, zander and river carp. Plenty to keep an eye out for.
  • Daylight fishing is controlled by BDAAS. A day permit costs £10 and lets you fish with two rods, which gives you a bit of scope to run a feeder while keeping another rod working a likely line.
  • The Horsefield Knights Syndicate shares the water with BDAAS during daylight, then has the place exclusively at night. Night fishing runs from sunset to sunrise.
  • There are 85 HKS pegs, matching the BDAAS pegs 1 to 85. Water above peg 85 is private, so don’t be tempted to push beyond the marked section.
  • For access, look for the track marked by a BDAAS sign on a wooden post after leaving Fiskerton village. Follow the described bends to the BDAAS car park.
  • Mind the timing on evening sessions: the car park gate is locked 30 minutes after sunset. The car park beside the weir is private, as is the weir-side access road, so steer clear.
  • Barbed hooks are allowed, though BDAAS prefers micro-barbed hooks. Barbel and carp must not be retained in keepnets.
  • There’s room for classic Trent tactics here: trotting, feeder work and focused barbel fishing are the obvious starting points. A bit of colour and extra push in the river should get the bigger fish having a look.

Methods: Feeder or touch-ledgering for barbel, with trotting worth a go when the flow and depth allow. Keep the approach tidy and work the crease, steadier glides and any crease between faster and slower water.
