We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is tidal Trent fishing at Normanton on Trent, Nottinghamshire. The stretch runs for approximately 600 yards.
- ABF describes it as a barbel water, with fish that are large, fit and hard-fighting. Proper powerful river barbel, by all accounts.
- Stout tackle is recommended. The fish are strong, and this is no place for undersized gear or a casual approach.
- Fishing is available 24 hours a day throughout the season, with night fishing permitted. Handy if you fancy putting in a proper long session.
- The area had not been heavily fished after the decline of match fishing, giving the venue a quieter feel than some well-trodden match stretches.
- There are some match-day restrictions, but only a small number of days are expected to affect pegs. Matches do not use every available peg.
- Priority goes to clubs booking matches through the Worksop & District Angling Club match secretary. Worth checking before travelling if a match is planned.
- The access track has recently been graded, which should make getting in easier. The entrance is gated, and members are given the gate combination.
- Parking is restricted to designated car parks or areas allowed under ABF rules. Keep every gate shut, and stick closely to the fishery arrangements.
- Fishing is rod and line only. Fixed rigs are banned, while leads and swim-feeders must be free-running. All fish go back alive, and barbel cannot be retained in keepnets.
Methods: Stout tackle is the order of the day for these hard-fighting tidal Trent barbel. Leads or swim-feeders must be free-running, and all rigs need to comply with the ABF rules.
