Rolleston (right bank) — Nottingham Piscatorial Society (NPS) — day tickets

Rolleston is an NPS right-bank fishery on the navigable River Trent in Nottinghamshire. It’s a visiting-angler-friendly bit of water with day tickets available in advance, and the combined Rolleston and Fiskerton fisheries run to over 2 miles of coarse fishing.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is proper Trent stuff, with the right bank listed as the Rolleston fishery. NPS describes it as suitable for visiting anglers, so it’s a handy option if you fancy a day on the river.
  • The swims cover a fair spread of approaches, from stick float work through to heavy swimfeeder fishing. Plenty of scope to change gear when the river starts showing a bit more push.
  • Summer brings boat traffic on this navigable stretch. Pick your timing and keep an eye on the water, especially if you’re setting up a feeder line or trotting the crease.
  • Winter conditions can be quieter, which could make for a calmer session and less disturbance. A good time to settle in and work the swim properly.
  • The fish list from NPS includes specimen barbel, plus chub, pike, carp, roach, perch and dace across its waters. There’s a decent mix for both coarse and predator-minded anglers.
  • For a classic session, start with the stick float when the flow allows. If the river is pushing, step up to a heavy swimfeeder and work the crease or steadier water.
  • Specimen fishing means an unhooking mat is compulsory. Keep nets aren’t allowed, and fishing from boats is off the menu.
  • You can use up to 2 rods on the day ticket, but there’s no night fishing. Tickets must be bought before you arrive — nothing is sold on the bank.
  • Access is strictly via recognised footpaths. Don’t cross fields, take vehicles over the land, damage crops, cut trees or dig at the banks. The NPS car park is at apples.dares.goodbye.

Methods: Stick float and heavy swimfeeder are both covered by the available swims. Tackle the steadier water or crease with the float when conditions allow, and go heavier when the Trent is pushing.

Key rules

  • Day tickets must be purchased in advance and are not available on the bank.
  • A maximum of 2 rods is allowed on a day ticket.
  • No fishing from boats.
  • Keep nets are not allowed.
  • The permit must be carried while fishing, and a current Environment Agency rod licence is required.
  • Dogs, radios, fires, tents and firearms are prohibited.
  • An unhooking mat must be used when specimen fishing.
  • Use recognised footpaths only. No crossing fields, vehicles over land, crop damage, tree cutting or digging out banks.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
