Thrumpton (Lower Meadows), River Trent
Thrumpton (Lower Meadows) is a secluded middle-Trent fishery with proper powerful fish on the cards. It’s a members-only stretch, covering the second and third meadows downstream from the old Thrumpton Ferry.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is classic quieter Trent country, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. A cracking spot for a solo pleasure session when you fancy a bit of peace.
- The federation’s fishing starts at the end of the first meadow downstream from the old ferry site. The actual stretch then runs through the second and third meadows.
- The river is noted for powerful, specimen-sized fish. Large barbel, specimen chub and hard-fighting carp are the headline characters here, so tackle up accordingly.
- Roach fishing is particularly good during autumn. That’s the time to have a proper go if silverfish are your thing and the river’s got a bit of colour in it.
- Feeder fishing is the federation’s recommended primary tactic. It’s the obvious starting point for working the flow and finding those deeper, more purposeful swims.
- Expect a middle-Trent feel rather than a tiny, intimate river. Look for the crease, steadier water and any features that give fish a break from the flow.
- Access is through Thrumpton village, then along a track reached via a security gate. The gate must be securely closed and locked after you’ve gone through.
- Parking is at the end of the track, but don’t block farm machinery or other anglers. From there, it’s a walk across the fishing meadows to the water.
- There’s no need for a noisy social session here. The water is described as quiet and well suited to fishing alone, with the chance of a proper lump bending the rod.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Feeder fishing is the main recommendation, with enough grunt in the water for strong tackle aimed at barbel, chub and carp. In autumn, give the roach a proper go as well.
