We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The official address is Swinford Bridge, Eynsham, Oxfordshire, OX29 4BY. Handy one for the sat-nav.
- Access is via the footpath south of Swinford Toll Bridge, then across the lock gates. Take care on the approach.
- The designated fishing area is the weir walkway. It sits high above the river, so this is not a simple bank-level setup.
- A drop net or very long-handled landing net is required. Worth sorting that before you head off — no point faffing at the water’s edge.
- There is no car parking at the lock. Roadside parking is only permitted where local restrictions allow, so check the signs properly.
- Toilets are available at the lock. A small thing, but always bob on when you’re settling in for a session.
- Fishing is first come, first served and subject to availability. The permit does not guarantee you a fishing space.
- The season runs from 16 June to 14 March inclusive. Fishing is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive.
- Keepnets are prohibited at all Environment Agency lock-and-weir fishing sites. Fishing is also banned from banks upstream of weir structures and from bullnoses.
- Up to two rods and lines may be used for coarse fish and eels where byelaws allow. For other species, only one rod and line may be used.
Methods: The checked details allow up to two rods and lines for coarse fish and eels where byelaws allow, with one rod for other species. Bring a drop net or very long-handled landing net for working from the high weir walkway.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
