We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- Northmoor is described by RDAA as a proper picturesque section of the River Thames. Quiet, rural and a bit removed from the usual busy fishery feel.
- This is open-bank fishing rather than a numbered-peg setup, so there’s no published peg count to work from. You’re looking at a natural Thames stretch rather than a formal peg-and-platform venue.
- The headline fish are the rare Upper Thames barbel and big chub, which RDAA says are present in good numbers. That’s the main draw for many anglers.
- The venue map also names roach, perch, bream and pike, plus occasional carp. A tidy spread of Thames species, then, rather than a one-fish water.
- RDAA gives the Northmoor access point as presenter.tissue.magnitude. Parking is listed at calculate.toward.dried, with another option upstream at the Ferryman pub.
- The Ferryman pub parking charge is £5. Handy enough if that’s the most practical option on the day, but remember the charge applies there.
- There’s no Northmoor-specific day-ticket price published. RDAA does list General and Bronze permits, along with a non-member river/canal day permit.
- Bronze permits give 24-hour fishing access. General permit fishing times follow the RDAA rules, so check the permit conditions before setting up.
- Night fishing isn’t an automatic free-for-all. It’s available only with the qualifying Bronze, South, North or Platinum permit categories, and RDAA says most night permits are sold out apart from Bronze.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: The checked venue details don’t prescribe a particular approach, so choose your Thames tactics around the swim and conditions. Barbel, chub and the wider mix of named species are the clear focus.
