We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is the Town Waters section around Wallingford, sitting within the official shared-water area run by RDAA and Wallingford Jolly Anglers A.C.
- The stretch runs from the downstream end of the RDAA Wallingford water to the wooden bridge. The requested Boathouse Pub-to-bridge section is included in that area.
- It’s an official Thames fishery, so expect classic river angling rather than a neat, manicured lake setup. Pick your swim and keep an eye on the river conditions.
- At around 0.4 mile, it’s a short stretch. There’s no official peg count, so don’t go expecting numbered pegs or a tidy match-style layout.
- The venue description names barbel, chub, roach, perch, zander and pike. Most Thames species may occur too, giving you plenty to think about across the seasons.
- For access, upstream parking is in the cemetery lane. There’s also parking near the wooden-bridge end, but stick to the official marked car parks shown on the venue map.
- The usual river close season applies from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. Outside that window, choose your approach around the conditions and the fish in front of you.
- A current Environment Agency rod licence is required alongside the relevant RDAA permit. The £10 non-member day permit is daylight-only and isn’t assumed valid here, as shared venues are excluded from the day-ticket page.
- Night fishing needs the relevant RDAA night permit. Wallingford is covered by Bronze, South, North or Platinum permit arrangements, so check that your permit specifically includes the stretch before settling in after dark.
Methods: Trotting, feeder work and predator approaches are all sensible options for a Thames stretch with barbel, chub, silverfish, perch, zander and pike. Keep things tidy, fish within the rules and let the river conditions dictate the session.
