River level integration coming for this stretch.

The lowdown

  • This is a compact beat in Powys, stretching for roughly half a mile along the Wye. Handy enough for a focused day rather than a full-on expedition.
  • The water is split between double-bank and single-bank sections, so there’s a bit of variety in how you tackle it. A small part can be fished from the bank.
  • Most of the beat needs wading, though, so come prepared for proper river work rather than a stroll-and-cast session.
  • Studded or felt-soled waders are recommended or necessary for the upper Wye conditions. No point skimping on decent footing here.
  • The beat is consistently productive for trout and grayling, with first-class sport specifically highlighted. A lovely spot for a tidy bit of river fishing.
  • There’s salmon water too, with capacity for one salmon rod per day. Salmon fishing is catch-and-release throughout, so handle those fish carefully.
  • The current daily capacity is up to two tickets. That keeps things nicely limited, with two trout or grayling rods available per day alongside the salmon option.
  • Access can be difficult, so allow a bit of time for the faff of getting in and finding your way around. Parking is described as very close to the river, which is a proper bonus.
  • Dogs are allowed, but they must be kept under control. National fishing byelaws apply, and fly fishing only is listed under the beat rules.
  • For salmon, there’s a full-day ticket or an evening option from 5pm. The trout and grayling tickets give you a more focused day on the river, with winter grayling available too.

Methods: Fly fishing only. For trout and grayling, concentrate on the varied wading water and keep mobile; salmon anglers have a full day or a cheeky evening session from 5pm.
