Pwll-y-Faedda
Pwll-y-Faedda is a cracking private Wye beat above Erwood Bridge, with around half a mile of fishing and eight named pools. There’s double-bank water, a short single-bank section, easy rock wading in places and some proper deep holes for big trout.

The lowdown
- This is upper Wye water near Builth Wells, tucked into 26 acres of private woodland. Very handy location on the A470 near Erwood.
- The beat is described as half a mile, with 850 yards of double-bank fishing plus another 60 yards of single-bank water. That’s a fair bit of river to go at.
- Eight pools give the place plenty of variety. Expect a mix of deeper, more settled water and fish-holding runs rather than one long, samey glide.
- Most of the beat fishes from the bank or with easy rock wading. Bob on if you like moving around and covering water without a massive faff.
- Some pools are very deep. Those are the spots to take seriously, especially when the river has a bit of colour or the bigger trout are lying doggo.
- The owner names salmon, trout and grayling. The Wye & Usk Foundation also lists pike and chub, so there’s a decent spread of river life here.
- The beat can fish early or late in the season at most water heights. That gives you options when conditions elsewhere are either too low or pushing through.
- For trout and grayling, work the likely lies around the pool heads, edges and steady water. When the river carries colour, cover the crease and deeper water properly.
- It’s private family-home fishing, so keep things tidy and respectful around the grounds. There are two free parking areas beside the drive for up to eight cars, with courtyard parking if needed.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: The varied pools look suited to mobile bank fishing and easy rock wading, with trout and grayling approaches in the steadier water and deeper-pool tactics when the river has a bit of colour. Salmon, pike and chub are also named for the beat or wider water.
