We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is a compact stretch at roughly 300 metres, so it’s more about picking the right swim than marching for miles. Nice and manageable.
  • WWAA describes the venue as peaceful and rural. The surroundings are farmland and river meadow country, with Nethertown and Handsacre close by.
  • It’s single-bank fishing, with the parking behind the pegs. Handy stuff. Full access and parking details come with membership, so there’s no faffing about with guesswork.
  • The Trent here has a broad mix of named species: roach, dace, chub, perch, pike, trout, grayling and barbel. A proper varied bit of river.
  • For the silverfish, trotting or a light feeder would be the obvious starting points where the flow suits. Keep an eye out for steadier water and the crease.
  • Chub and barbel give you a reason to fish tighter to features and the better-looking flow. A feeder approach should cover you when the river’s carrying a bit more water.
  • Perch and pike add a cheeky bit of variety, while trout and grayling round out the river’s character. Don’t assume every swim is doing the same thing.
  • There’s no night fishing at present, so this is strictly a daylight venue. Plan around the conditions and make the most of the session.
  • WWAA membership runs from 1 January to 31 December. The association aims to keep membership around 75 anglers, but the membership page currently reports a lengthy waiting list and says no additional members are being taken.

Methods: A flexible river approach makes most sense here: trot or fish a light feeder for the roach, dace and chub, then switch things up for barbel, perch or pike. Work the crease, quieter water and any likely features in the flow.
