We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • The club describes this water as running from the bottom of Avon Street up to the top of Myton Road. Handy enough, and a cracking bit of Warwickshire Avon to have on the card.
  • It’s a mixed bag sort of place. The club reports large carp, barbel and good roach, plus surprise catches that can really liven up a session.
  • Pike are present too, with club reports recording fish from roughly 13 lb to 21 lb. So don’t rock up completely unprepared if you’re fishing small silver fish.
  • For carp and barbel, proper specimen kit and an unhooking mat are the sensible shout. The club specifically asks anglers to use mats for large carp, tench, pike and barbel.
  • Roach give you a more traditional river option. Trotting or working a feeder around the likely depth changes and flow breaks should suit the mixed coarse character of the stretch.
  • The club has held matches on the Myton Road section, with members eligible to fish under the stated arrangement. That says plenty about its appeal for general coarse fishing.
  • River fishing is closed during the statutory coarse-fishing close season, from 15 March to 16 June. Plan your visits outside that window.
  • Myton Road fields parking can be used when open, but the club says it may shut in wet winter weather. When that happens, parking around Avon Street and walking over the green footbridge is the alternative.
  • Keep it tidy and low-impact. No bonfires, no litter, no unofficial bank alterations, and take waste line home or cut it into short pieces. Close gates behind you and don’t cross crops unless access is provided.

Methods: It’s a versatile coarse-fishing stretch, with trotting or feeder work for roach and mixed bags, while carp and barbel call for sturdier specimen tackle. Pike are also present, but livebaits must be sourced at the fishery and not brought in from elsewhere.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
