We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • Saltaire Angling Association has run this fishery since 1867, so this is an established club water rather than a casual day-ticket stretch.
  • The water sits in and around the World Heritage Site of Saltaire village. A cracking setting, with the river lengths tied closely to local landmarks and access points.
  • Length 1 runs from Cottingley Beck to Seven Arches on the right bank. Entry is from Branksome Drive, using the footpath past the stables.
  • Length 2 runs from Seven Arches to Hirst Wood weir and is fished on both banks. The right bank finishes at the top of Hirst Mill field.
  • Take care around Hirst Mill field: anglers are specifically told not to trespass into it. That boundary is one to keep bob on.
  • For Length 2, parking is listed by Bradford Amateur Rowing Club, subject to gated access and owner risk. Hirst Wood public car park is another option.
  • The association also says anglers can walk along the canal towpath, then descend through the trees to the river bank. A bit of a faff, but it’s the stated route.
  • Length 3 runs from Hirst Wood weir to Salts Mill weir. Its left-bank section reaches the top of the cricket pitch in Roberts Park, while the right bank runs from Hirst Wood weir to the top of Salts Mill weir.
  • The Roberts Park cricket-pitch length is controlled by Bradford No. 1 Angling Association, so don’t assume every bit of Length 3 is Saltaire water.
  • Length 4 runs from Salts Mill weir to Baildon Road Bridge and is fished on both banks, subject to the stated limits around Salts Mill.

Methods: No specific methods, river features, depth, flow guidance or seasonal approach are published for these lengths. Fishing access is tied to Saltaire Angling Association membership or its yearbook.

Key rules

  • Fishing is for Saltaire Angling Association members or yearbook holders only; no day permits are offered.
  • Length 1 is on the right bank from Cottingley Beck to Seven Arches.
  • Length 2 is fished on both banks from Seven Arches to Hirst Wood weir.
  • Do not trespass into Hirst Mill field; the right bank of Length 2 ends at the top of the field.
  • The Roberts Park cricket-pitch length is controlled by Bradford No. 1 Angling Association.
  • Length 4 is fished on both banks, subject to the stated limits around Salts Mill.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
