We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Otley on Live River Levels
The lowdown
- This is proper Yorkshire river fishing, with the River Wharfe running through Burley before carrying on towards Otley and Wetherby.
- The club controls five Wharfe stretches altogether, covering nearly 10 miles of river. Other sections are at Harewood, Woodhall and Ozendyke.
- Greenholme Weir and the stepping stones area are the key named landmarks for the Burley section. Handy bits to have in mind when working out your access and swim.
- The club says various legal angling methods may be used, depending on the stretch. So check the current club rules before setting up.
- The fish list across the club’s Wharfe waters is a cracking one: chub, barbel, dace, grayling, trout, roach, perch and pike are all named.
- Bream are also mentioned, although the club describes them as rare. Don’t bank on filling a net with them.
- With no day tickets allowed, this isn’t a cheeky drop-in venue. You’ll need to sort club membership before fishing.
- The club carries out river-bank maintenance and access improvements, with working parties helping look after the stretches.
- There’s conservation work too, including work with the Angling Trust, planting 1,200 trees along riverbanks and organising litter picks.
- The Burley water sits close to the West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire boundary area, with the river between Burley-in-Wharfedale and Otley recorded in the surrounding area.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: The club allows various legal angling methods, depending on the stretch. Check the club’s current rules for what applies on the Burley water before fishing.
