We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Netherside Hall on Live River Levels

The lowdown

  • This is a proper mixed-feature stretch, with named sections including Grassington Bridge, Calcraft Dub, The Islands, Netherside, The Plains, Slaters, Ghaistrills, Low Holme, Ladywell, Linton Falls and Low Mill.
  • Expect plenty of changes in character. There are deeper pools, lively runs, weirs and waterfall features, so don’t just charge in and fish the nearest glide.
  • The club’s water runs around Grassington, Threshfield and Linton. That gives you a good spread of river to explore rather than one single, boxed-in swim.
  • Day-ticket fishing is fly fishing only. Worth knowing before you turn up, as spinning lures are prohibited and ticket holders must use an artificial fly in October.
  • The brown trout season runs from 25 March to 30 September. Grayling tickets may be available from 1 October to 28 February, with the stated grayling season running from 15 June to 14 March.
  • There’s a cheeky bit of flexibility later in the trout season: single maggot is allowed between Grassington Bridge and the bottom limit from 16 June until the end of the trout season.
  • Keep an eye on conditions, especially during hot or low-water spells. The club points anglers towards the river-level reading at Netherside Hall before fishing.
  • No groundbaiting or swim-feeding, so keep things tidy and mobile. Nets, night lines, medicated baits, salmon spawn and cereal bait are also banned.
  • Fish to the features. Work the crease by a faster run, cover the heads and tails of pools, and take care around weirs, stepping stones and falls.
  • The club has managed the water since 1854, with trout and grayling restocking and conservation part of the fishery picture. Proper traditional river fishing, this.

Methods: Fly fishing is the main ticket approach, with careful cover of pools, runs and creases. Where the rules allow, a single maggot can be used on the specified section after 16 June until the trout season closes.
