We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This one starts below the riverside cottages at the end of the moorings and runs downstream to the water culvert. A tidy, well-defined bit of river.
  • The fishable bank is the left bank, with good accessibility and around 12–16 pegs spread along the stretch.
  • Depths sit at approximately 4–6 feet, giving you enough water for a proper range of approaches. Look for the crease and steadier water when the river is pushing through.
  • Roach are the big autumn and winter draw here, so trotting or a light feeder is well worth having in the armoury.
  • The club also names chub, barbel, dace, pike, bream, eel, carp, perch and rudd among the fish present across its waters.
  • Summer boat traffic is heavy. Passing boats can throw up bow waves, so keep an eye on the surface and expect the swim to change when traffic comes through.
  • The bank path gets pedestrians, so anglers need to take care with rods, tackle and backcasts. It is not one for leaving gear sprawled everywhere.
  • Access is via the public pathway beside the white cottages. The approach is from Power Station Road, opposite the Rose and Crown car park on the A4025.
  • Parking and access are identified on the grassy verge near the housing estate. The club also gives DY13 9RL for the track access, DY13 9PA for the Rose and Crown and DY13 9NZ for the playground access.
  • Summer boat movement makes a quieter, tidier presentation sensible. In autumn and winter, when the roach are especially lively, a float approach through the depth looks bob on.

Methods: Trotting and light feeder work look the natural starting points, especially for the autumn and winter roach. Keep things tidy around the pedestrian path and be ready for boat-generated bow waves.
