We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a walk-in meadow-access stretch, not a roadside fishery. You’ll be walking over two meadows before getting to the water, so pack light and keep the faff down.
- The whole vibe is quiet and tucked away. It’s aimed squarely at anglers wanting to get away from it all rather than fish somewhere busy.
- The stretch runs for approximately half a mile. That gives you a decent bit of water to explore, though the number of individual pegs isn’t stated.
- Barbel are the headline act here, with the society describing the fishing as quality. Chub are also specifically named for the Leigh water.
- The wider Worcester Angling Society River Teme waters are renowned for barbel and chub too, so those are the species to build your approach around.
- A sensible starting point is to look for the usual barbel and chub water features: steady runs, creases and any deeper-looking glide. The facts don’t give exact swims, depths or named features, so keep your eyes peeled.
- For barbel, a feeder approach is the obvious route when the river has a bit of colour. Chub can be tackled more quietly, with a float or light feeder line where the flow allows.
- Give yourself time to walk the meadows and settle in. This isn’t a quick hop-out-the-car-and-fish venue, and the secluded setting is a big part of the appeal.
- Day permits must be sorted before fishing. There’s no stated pay-on-the-bank option, so don’t leave the ticket until you’re standing by the water.
- Close every gate after access. Also check the competition calendar, because fishing is banned for three hours before society competitions.
Methods: Build around barbel and chub. Feeder fishing is a sensible bet for barbel, while trotting or a lighter float approach could suit chub where the flow allows.
