We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a proper steady-paced bit of river, rather than a frantic bit of water. The club describes the flow as even, with an average depth around 10 feet.
- The water runs through three fields, giving the stretch a good spread of river to explore. There are no peg numbers listed, so expect to find your own comfortable swim.
- Bream are a real feature here, and the club reports fish over 7 lb. That makes the deeper, steadier water well worth a look with feeder tactics.
- Chub and roach are well distributed through the section. Float tactics can be effective, so trotting or working a float through the pace is firmly on the cards.
- Barbel are present, although the club says they are less prolific than in the upper reaches. Pick the crease and any changes in the riverbed rather than expecting them everywhere.
- Carp are in the stretch but are nomadic and can be tricky to locate. A bit of patience and moving around may be needed to find fish on the munch.
- There are predators too, with pike, large perch and zander reported. Keep an eye on quieter water and likely ambush spots.
- Night fishing is allowed for members, which opens up a different session on this deep, even-paced river. Overnight anglers must notify the owner by text or telephone first.
- Riverside parking is only allowed in dry weather and after the grass has been cut. Keep vehicles beside the river and never cross the fields.
- It is a club-water setup, so stick to the rules: maximum three rods from one swim, no fires or barbecues, and take every scrap of bait, groundbait and line home.
Methods: Float tactics are worth a proper go for chub and roach, while feeder work should suit the deeper bream water. Barbel, carp and the predators need a more mobile, feature-finding approach.
