How it works

  1. 1

    Start a league

Name it, pick a format, keep or tweak the rules.

  2. 2

    Invite your mates

Send one link to the group chat. Joining is free.

  3. 3

    Fish and confirm

Log fish, blanks and sessions. A mate confirms each one.

  4. 4

    Table and Committee

Watch the live table. A weekly fun vote adds or takes off points.

Five formats

Pick a starting point, then make it yours

Every format is a set of starting rules. Change which fish score, the big-fish tiers, the caps, and add up to six of your own rules.

  • Banter League

Any fish, any water. Points for sessions, fish, big fish and PBs, plus a banter award from the weekly Committee vote.

  • Carp League

Carp only. Big-fish tiers do the heavy lifting.

  • Coarse Match

More fish, smaller bonuses. Rewards weight and variety of fish and consistency on coarse species.

  • Predator

Pike, perch, zander, eels and cats. Lure and fly extras built in.

  • All-Rounder

Every species counts and variety pays — new species and new waters score extra.

How a season works

From group chat to final whistle

  1. 1

    Start a league

Name it, pick one of five formats and tweak the points, fish and your own daft rules. The rules lock when the season starts, so nobody moves the goalposts.

Step 1 of league set-up: name the league and pick a format such as Banter League or Carp League
  2. 2

    Invite your mates

Send one link to the group chat. Mates see the league name and spaces left, sign in with a free account and start on 0 points.

    What your mates get

    Example link

Fancy it? Join "The Saturday Blankers" on Tackle Leagues. Free to join and vote, no membership needed. https://tackleindex.co.uk/league/ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZ23

Copy it or use your phone's share menu — WhatsApp, Messenger, wherever your group chat lives. Links expire and you can switch them off.

  3. 3

    Fish and log it

Log a fish, a session or an honest blank. Plan a league session, get a Going / Maybe / No from everyone, or log a trip you've already done together.

Log a result screen: caught one, blanked or fished, with species and weight in lb and oz
  4. 4

    Mates confirm it

Another angler who was there confirms each result — never yourself. Big solo claims go to the Committee. In Evidence leagues, solo results need a photo too.

    Your results

    Example league
    • 18lb 4oz mirror carp · Waiting for a matePhoto
    • Session on the bank · Confirmed by Dave
    • 32lb common (solo) · With the Committee
  5. 5

    Watch the table move

Live standings, a points breakdown for every angler, a weekly Committee night for banter bonuses, and a Banter feed of everything that happened.

    League table

    Example league
    1. 1Gaz+5 waiting47 pts
    2. 2Sarah41 pts
    3. 3You+12 waiting38 pts
    4. 4Dave22 pts

Points only count once a mate confirms them. "Waiting" points never show as banked.

  6. 6

    End-of-season awards

The season locks, the table is saved and the awards are worked out from confirmed results. Then go again — next free four weeks, same mates.

Inside a league

The Committee and the banter

These are examples of the real screens, with made-up anglers. Your league is private to the people in it.

Committee vote

Example league

Dave: late for Wednesday's match and still came last

Committee night · 24 hours to vote · everyone but Dave votes

Points on or points off. The middle vote wins, so one wind-up vote can't swing it, and nobody votes on themselves. It's a fun vote only — it never decides whether a fish was real.

Banter

Example league
  • Sarah logged a 14lb 2oz bream · confirmed by Gaz👏 3 · 🐟 2 · "Proper lump, that"
  • The Committee has spoken: Dave gets +5.
League sessions in the demo: a planned social with Going, Maybe and Can't make it answers

Why bother

Proper rivalry, without the admin

  • Friendly rivalry

A reason to get out more — and something to wind your mates up about.

  • Group sessions

Plan a trip, see who's going, and bank the session once a mate confirms you were there.

  • Fair points

Daily caps, big-fish tiers and one PB bonus per species stop anyone farming points.

  • Honours

Fish Whisperer, Golden Blank, Last Cast Liar and more.

  • Shareable invites

One link for the group chat. Switch it off any time.

  • Private by default

Not on Google, not public. Keep the water you fished private if you like.

Fair play & privacy

Honest results, kept in the group

Mates confirm mates

A result only counts when another angler confirms it. Nobody confirms their own. Pending points never show as banked.

A Committee for the big ones

Big solo claims get a 24-hour check from the rest of the league, with a fair chance to appeal. The weekly fun vote (−10 to +10) is separate and never decides whether a fish was real.

Private photos

Photos are re-saved before upload so camera and location data is removed, stored privately and only shown to your league. The same photo can't be used twice.

Adults (18+) only for now. No paid entry or prize money. Report or mute anyone in Banter. We don't claim to verify fish, weights or whether a water is open — that's down to your group and the water's rules.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need Angler Plus?
No. Running your first league, and joining, logging, confirming and voting in any league, are all free with a free Tackle Index account. Angler Plus (£4.99 a month) is a separate personal membership — it's only needed for saving trips to your personal Fishing Memory.
What does the free plan include?
Your first league is free, for good: four-week seasons for up to 8 anglers, one season at a time, back to back as often as you like. You can run up to 5 leagues; every league after your free one needs its own one-off season pass. Joining other people's leagues is always free.
What about longer seasons or bigger groups?
Season passes — 6 months, the river season (16 June – 14 March) or 12 months, for up to 15 anglers (Standard) or more (Unlimited). The organiser pays once; it never renews and members never pay. Your free league can move up with a pass from its Manage tab; any extra league you start needs its own pass before it opens.
How do you stop people making fish up?
Mates confirm mates: a result only counts once another angler who was there confirms it, and nobody can confirm their own. Big solo claims go to a 24-hour Committee check. Evidence leagues need a photo for solo results. It's a fair-play system run by your group — we don't claim software can verify a fish.
Who can see our photos and results?
Only members of your league. Photos are stored privately, opened through short-lived links, and re-saved before upload so camera and location data is stripped. You can keep the water you fished private.
How does the Committee vote work?
Each week anglers can nominate a moment — a daft fail, a late arrival, a heroic effort. The rest of the league has 24 hours to vote −10, −5, 0, +5 or +10, and the middle vote wins. The person nominated doesn't vote on it. It's for fun only: it never decides whether a fish was real. Anyone can report a nomination that goes too far, and organisers can hide it.
Is there prize money?
No — no paid entry, no cash pools, no prizes for money. It's bragging rights, honours and the odd daft award.
Who can join?
Anglers aged 18 or over for now. You'll be asked to confirm when you start or join a league.
Does a river season mean a water is open?
No. It's just a season length. Always follow the fishery, club and Environment Agency rules for the water you fish.
