Who it suits

Is it right for you?

Great for

  • Reservoir and gravel-pit feeder anglers. The length and casting power are made for reaching distant bars, islands and far-bank features with heavier feeders.
  • Match anglers fishing at range. The three tips and accurate, positive blank should help cover changing wind, depth and feeder demands during a match.

Maybe skip if

  • Short-range commercial anglers. A 13ft, 150g rod is far more rod than you need for margin fishing or close-in shallow work.
  • Anglers who mainly fish light natural venues. The blank is designed around distance and heavier loads, rather than delicate presentation with tiny feeders.

Quick verdict

Verdict: a cracking distance feeder rod

The Guru Aventus Distance Feeder Rod 13ft is built for anglers who need proper reach, casting muscle and enough tip choice to cover changing conditions. Its 150g casting weight and 100m-plus capability put it firmly in the distance feeder camp.

It’s not the daintiest tool for close-in silverfish work, but for big reservoirs, wide rivers and commercial venues where the far bank matters, it looks bob on. A serious bit of kit for serious chucking.

Performance
9.6/10

The 150g casting weight, long blank and three distance tips give it plenty of scope for demanding feeder work.

Impact on Fish Catching
9/10

Better distance, line control and feeder choice can put bait in front of fish that shorter rods simply can’t reach.

Ease of Use
8.4/10

Three sections and multiple tips are practical, but a 13ft distance rod needs space and a reasonably tidy setup.

Value for Money
8.8/10

The quality components and versatile tip selection make a strong case for the price bracket, especially for regular distance anglers.

The full rundown

Everything you'll want to know about the Guru Aventus Distance Feeder Rod 13ft

There’s long-range feeder fishing, then there’s proper long-range feeder fishing. The sort where the far side of the reservoir is calling, the wind is having a laugh and a little 30g feeder simply isn’t going to cut the mustard. That’s where the Guru Aventus Distance Feeder Rod 13ft comes in. It’s a serious bit of kit for anglers who need reach, control and a bit of welly behind every chuck.

At 13ft, or 3.90m, this is built to move line, load a feeder and keep you in touch with a swim that’s a fair old walk away. Guru gives it a 150g casting weight, so this isn’t aimed at dainty little cages and close-in roach bashing. It’s for heavier feeders, deeper water, crosswinds and those pegs where the fish are sitting miles out and refusing to come any closer.

The claimed 100m-plus capability will obviously depend on your reel, line, feeder choice and casting technique. No magic wand here, mate. Get the setup balanced, clip up properly and use a smooth casting stroke, though, and the blank has the sort of authority needed to send a feeder a serious distance without feeling like you’re fighting the rod.

That power comes from an HVF high-volume carbon fibre blank. The Japanese carbon is made to Tackle Guru’s specifications by Daiwa, which gives this rod a decent pedigree on paper. The construction is split into three sections, making the 13-footer much easier to transport than a two-piece distance rod of the same length.

The joints use spigot construction with V-Joint technology. In plain English, that’s aimed at keeping the sections working together smoothly under load, rather than creating a clunky hinge halfway up the blank. That matters when you’re punching a feeder out, but also when a proper lump changes direction close to the net.

At the business end, you get three distance quiver tips: 1.5oz, 2oz and 3oz. That’s a useful spread. The lighter tip gives you more sensitivity when things are calmer, while the 3oz option is there for a heavier feeder, more tow or a bit of a hoolie blowing across the lake. It’s not a one-trick rod with one brutally stiff tip and nowt else.

The guides are oversized Fuji BCKWAG/K models with Alconite rings. That larger format makes sense for distance work, especially when you’re using a shock leader and want clean line flow through the rings. The Fuji DPS reel seat is a familiar, dependable choice too, with enough grip for a powerful cast and a heavier feeder reel.

Guru has gone for an A-grade Armlock cork handle with a cork and EVA downlocking foregrip, plus an exclusive Guru EVA rear grip. That setup should feel secure when you’re bracing for a chuck, while still giving the rod a proper feeder-rod look rather than turning it into a carp rod with a quiver tip stuck on top.

The important thing is knowing where this rod fits. It’s for big waters, open swims, longer casts and heavier tackle. If your usual session involves flicking a small feeder to the near island or dropping maggots beside the platform, this will be a bit of a sledgehammer. But if the rods are off at distance and you need to put bait on the money all day, it looks a proper contender.

Our take

The angle

The big attraction here is balance. You get a powerful HVF carbon blank, quality Fuji fittings and three useful quiver tips, but the rod still keeps the familiar control you need when fishing a feeder properly.

That makes it more than just a long-distance broomstick. It’s aimed at accurate, repeatable casting, positive line control and playing good fish at range without feeling totally disconnected from the swim.

What you’re buying

A long-range feeder rod with proper backbone

The Aventus Distance Feeder Rod 13ft is a three-piece, 150g-rated rod designed around long casts and heavier feeder work. Its HVF high-volume carbon fibre blank is made from Japanese carbon to Tackle Guru specifications by Daiwa, while spigot joints and V-Joint technology are intended to keep the sections working smoothly as the blank loads.

The three quiver tips are a big part of the package. The 1.5oz, 2oz and 3oz options let you tune the rod to conditions, from calmer water through to heavier feeders, wind and tow. Add the oversized Fuji BCKWAG/K guides, Alconite rings and Fuji DPS reel seat, and the hardware is bang on for a serious distance setup.

Worth knowing. A 150g casting weight doesn’t mean you should blindly fish at that limit every chuck. Match the feeder, leader and casting style sensibly, and use a smooth compression rather than trying to launch it with a wild heave. That’s how you stay accurate and keep the tackle happy.

Where it earns its keep

Made for open water and distant fish

This rod makes most sense on reservoirs, gravel pits and broad rivers where the fish are beyond comfortable short-range feeder distance. It should also appeal to match anglers who need to reach a far shelf, island margin or clipped-up line consistently, especially when a heavier feeder is needed to hold bottom.

The extra length helps with more than casting. It can improve line control, help lift line over weed or a shallow margin, and give you more leverage when steering a fish at range. That’s handy when the swim has snags or the far-bank shelf needs careful management.

It’s less at home on tiny commercials, narrow canals and cramped pegs. You can use it there, of course, but you’ll be carrying a lot of rod for not much gain. For close-in carp, small skimmers and light silverfish work, a shorter and softer feeder rod will be less faff and more enjoyable.

A few bank-side answers

The bits you’ll want to know

Can it fish lighter than its headline rating? Yes, the 1.5oz tip gives you some flexibility, particularly on stillwater. But the character of the rod is still distance-focused, so it won’t suddenly become a delicate 10ft float-style feeder rod. It wants a bit of room and a purposeful job to do.

What reel goes with it? A suitably sized feeder reel with a useful spool and a smooth clutch makes sense. For genuine long-range work, pair it with a line and shock leader arrangement that suits the feeder weight and your casting style, then clip up carefully before the bite-time starts.

Is 100m-plus realistic? It’s a claimed capability with suitable tackle and technique, not a guarantee for every angler or venue. Wind, feeder shape, line diameter, casting style and the room behind your peg all make a difference. The rod gives you the tools; you still need to put the chuck together.

On paper

Pros & cons

What we like

  • Proper power for long-range feeder work and heavier baskets
  • Three quiver tips give useful coverage across different flow and weather conditions
  • Quality Fuji guides, reel seat and spigot V-Joint construction
  • Long blank helps with line control, casting and keeping line clear of snags

Worth knowing

  • Overkill for short-range commercial fishing and lighter silverfish work
  • A 13ft distance rod needs room behind you, so cramped pegs can be awkward
  • The 150g rating and powerful build won’t suit anglers wanting a soft, ultra-forgiving feeder blank

The stuff you’d ask your mate on the next peg. Straight answers, no waffle.

01

How far can the Guru Aventus Distance Feeder Rod 13ft cast?

02

Which line should I use?

The recommended line range is 4–12lb. For long-range work, match the main line to the feeder and venue, then use a suitable shock leader where the casting load demands it.

03

What tips come with the rod?

You get 1.5oz, 2oz and 3oz distance quiver tips, giving you useful options from lighter conditions through to more demanding wind or feeder work.

What anglers say

The word from the bank

Our read: verdict: a cracking distance feeder rod. The strongest reasons to choose it are proper power for long-range feeder work and heavier baskets and three quiver tips give useful coverage across different flow and weather conditions; the main trade-off is overkill for short-range commercial fishing and lighter silverfish work.
