We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is WDAC water on the Stour, tucked below Canford Bridge near Canford Magna. Proper lowland river fishing.
  • The fishery sits on the northern bank. The upstream end is below the council recycling centre, with the approach continuing beyond it.
  • From Brook Road, head through the gate just past the flyover bridge. Walk down to the river, then continue downstream to the stretch.
  • There’s another way in from the downstream end. Park as for Baileys, cross the suspension bridge and walk upstream.
  • Parking is directed to Brook Road or the Baileys approach. Don’t drive onto the fishery itself.
  • The venue is renowned for large pike. Older WDAC venue information gives specimen indications of 20lb+ pike, 1lb+ roach and 6lb+ chub.
  • Roach and dace are named for the stretch, with chub also listed. A nice mix of proper river coarse fish, with the pike the real headline act.
  • There’s no official measured length or peg count, so expect a walk-and-find-water sort of session rather than a numbered-peg job.
  • The Stour character here is described as lowland river water downstream of Canford Bridge. The available information doesn’t pin down individual swims, depths or features.
  • Game fishing is allowed for trout and sea trout under the official venue information. The club’s general fishing rules enforce a closed season, so check the current book before planning a date.

Methods: The named targets are large pike, roach, dace and chub, with game fishing also allowed for trout and sea trout. The official venue information doesn’t set out specific tactics, so match the approach to the river on the day and stick to the current club rules.

Key rules

  • A closed season is enforced under the club’s general fishing rules.
  • Game fishing is allowed for trout and sea trout.
  • Access is through club membership; no separate day-ticket price is advertised for this stretch.
  • Use the current WDAC rules reference, identified as the 2026/27 membership book.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
