We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a classic weir-and-river job, with the weir pool on the northern bank the obvious draw.
- The stretch sits downstream of Baileys, Purchase’s and Chissell’s, so it forms part of a longer run of club-controlled Stour water.
- Northern-bank fishing is reached via the pedestrian suspension bridge. Fishing carries downstream as far as the Christchurch sign.
- The southern side runs via the drive past the school entrance, with the limit between the boathouse and gatehouse.
- Canford School has short sections on both the southern and northern banks, but there is no access to the school itself.
- Barbel, chub and bream are all present to specimen size. Brown trout are also present, giving the water a bit of extra variety.
- The weir pool is the standout feature. It is the place to focus on when you want to fish the most productive-looking part of the stretch.
- Coarse fishing is shut from 14 March to 16 June, and the closed season is enforced. That one is not worth trying to dodge.
- Game fishing for trout and sea trout is allowed, so the rules differ depending on what you are targeting.
- Parking within Canford School grounds is not permitted. Sort your access before tackling the river, rather than having a last-minute faff. There is no official length or peg count given for the stretch.
Methods: The facts confirm coarse fishing and game fishing for trout and sea trout, with the weir pool the key feature to build a session around. Specific tactics, depths and flow details are not stated.
