Lydbrook (Lydbrook Angling Club) / Wyebank
Wyebank at Lydbrook is a cracking 300-yard left-bank beat on the middle/lower Wye, with quick water, proper structure and some lovely named features. Barbel are the big draw, while chub, trout, dace and the occasional autumn grayling add plenty of interest.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a bank-fishing-only beat, with roughly 300 yards of left bank to explore. It sits in Lydbrook, between Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth.
- The flow is quite fast for this part of the Wye, so expect proper river water rather than a lazy glide. A bit of colour should fish well.
- The Wyebank Run, Wyebank Crib, Lower Crib and Boat Rock give the stretch plenty of shape. Cribs also provide salmon lies.
- The Wharf Pool is a mid-river hole with a smooth bedrock floor. Worth a good look when conditions make the fish drop back into depth.
- Barbel fishing is particularly good here. Look for steady feed lines, crease water and the quieter edges below the faster stuff.
- Chub fishing can be superb, with fish to 5 or 6lb mentioned on the rights-holder page. Trotting or a neat feeder approach should cover the water nicely.
- Dace are present, and wild trout are available too. There has been no stocking in this part of the Wye for many years.
- Grayling are sometimes present for autumn fishing, giving the later season a cheeky extra option. All the usual Wye fish are said to be present.
- Coarse fishing is for one or two anglers, with a maximum of three tickets available each day. Salmon fly fishing is for one rod.
- It is catch and release for all species. The beat has nearby parking and good river access, but night fishing and overnight camping are not allowed.
Methods: For coarse anglers, trotting and feeder work suit the quicker flow, targeting creases, cribs, deeper holes and the edges of the run. Salmon fly fishing is available for one rod.
