Wyebank
Wyebank is a cracking 300-yard left-bank beat on the lower Wye near Lower Lydbrook. It offers salmon fly fishing and spinning, plus some properly tasty coarse sport with barbel, dace and chub in the mix.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is lower-Wye fishing between Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, with a relatively fast flow for this part of the river. Proper river water, then.
- The Wyebank Run is the main salmon feature, with several cribs that concentrate the lies. The Wyebank crib, lower crib and Boat Rock are the names to know.
- Wharf Pool is a mid-river hole with a smooth bedrock floor. When conditions line up, it can produce grilse fishing.
- Salmon anglers can fish the beat with fly or spinning tackle. Keep an eye on the flow and work the features rather than just flogging the open water.
- There’s coarse fishing too, but it’s deliberately kept quiet: exclusive to one or two anglers for a day, with a maximum of three tickets daily.
- Barbel fishing is particularly good, and dace are also described as particularly good. Chub can be excellent, with fish to 5–6 lb mentioned.
- Wild trout are present and the beat hasn’t been stocked for many years. Grayling are sometimes present for autumn fishing, adding another cheeky option.
- The riverbank is well maintained and access to the river is described as excellent. Nearby parking is available, so there’s less faff getting tackle to the water.
- Evening coarse tickets run from 5pm between May and September. All fishing is catch and release, with a wash-off policy in operation.
- For a bigger group, Wyebank can be combined with the separately bookable Courtfield beat. Dogs are allowed, but keep them under control. No night fishing or overnight camping.
Methods: For salmon, fish the fly or spin through the cribs, Boat Rock and Wharf Pool. For coarse fish, trotting or feeder work should suit the faster flow, targeting the deeper holes and steadier edges.
